Another Trip Home To Mahia, Another Time Of Cleansing Self Relection

I didnt take a single photo this year. I had flat batteries & no spares & fuck paying Mahia prices for new ones. I spent a lot of time on this trip thinking about the changes I've been planning to make in my life. I made an effort to open myself up this year in the sense that if i could show an example of who I really am it would have a flow on effect & I would reside in a different emotional state. However, that didnt really have the desired affect & well, it still had a positive effect in a round about way. See, I sort of needed a kick up the arse (I got slightly hurt) to make all these promises i made to myself & my boys, actually happen, instead of remaining conversations, left behind.

I woke up this morning & had a conversation with my Dad about how i was feeling in respect to certain recent events & future plans & he basically layed it out like this:

"what do YOU wanna do? then just fucking do it boy, now, no use fucking around waiting for the world to change for you"

That is seriously all I needed to hear, from someone that influential in my life. & so today I decided fuck Auckland, fuck my job & shit yeah to a fresh new start around the ones I love, admire, respect & adore - my family & friends. I've spent a lot of time these past few months in Wellington, & everytime I've left i've sworn i'll move back for good. But then, I get to Auckland & settle into the same old routine of work & play. My music has been suffering as a result of not being around the ones who inspire me - yep, family & friends.

Now I dont want it to sound like I have no friends in Auckland, because I have some incredible friends there & they know I love them to pieces, cos I'm one of those guys that isnt afraid to say things like that. All of my Auckland friends have been incredible & I will miss you all so much, but we'll no doubt tear it up everytime I'm back, which will be quite often because....

...my baby Kaya Soul will still be up there. Thats been the biggest factor in me having been up there so long, but with her recent approval I can finally make the much needed change I've been craving.

I enjoyed chilling with my family (& unintentionally entertaining them to no end on new years eve hahaha!) & friends in Mahia, even making new ones (namely Mariana & Lisa - top blokes). Its all of you guys combined that give me a warm feeling heading into 2010.

2009 was a shitty year for myself & many of those close to me, in most respects & I'm looking forward to the results of my active pursuit for positive change.

So on that note my friends, happy new year & I hope you all have the good feeling that I have for the year ahead. Cheers.

So I jumped on a plane to fly down to Welli for Tyna & The Nok's video shoot for "Magic" & I had planned on being just 2 days, then back to Auckland. I arrived at Welli airport & Tynes was there to pick me up & we went straight to pick up the Prez Lachie & once we were all in the car, I decided "nah I'm staying longer aye, I'm here all week". We went & picked up some drinks & headed to the studio to chill before the night got underway. Tynes was making beats & playing us the new Nok joints (wait til y'all hear this shit!)while we smashed a box & pretty quickly we were ready to hit the party. A 19th birthday party hahaha. We turned up there & there were like 2 rugby teams of fullas so it was a bit of a sausage festival, until Courtney kicked them all out, including the bouncer. We chilled there for a while before heading to town, where of course you cant get into a hiphop club wearing sneakers. Useless cunts. We went & chilled at Rain untill it all dried up. That was the first night.

I chilled with my parents on Sunday & had a nice relaxing time. & then on Monday....I planned to meet the Prez in town & catch up with some old frends & new ones for a quiet drink at the Kiwi pub. I meet The Prez & he takes me back to Peta's house for a quiet 3 bottles of wine at 2.30 in the afternoon. We finish those & leave the house drunk to head into town & I knew we were in trouble when we were heckling people on the street before even getting in the car. Peta dropped us off on Taranaki St & Lachie's still got some red wine left in the bottle so we take turns at skulling it untill....

...he decided to throw up in the middle of Taranaki St. At 4.30 in the afternoon. Peak hour Traffic. He held the traffic up & spewed red wine while I stood there laughing & taking a photo. Awesome. We carried on to the Kiwi pub where we met up with some old friends & then some new ones off twitter (@niceties @Naly_D @NZyall) turned up (I know, I'm a geek) & neither Lachie or I can remember much after that apart from him flopping it out & then us crashing out @ Lipman St....

Tuesday was another boozy one on Aro St where we ended up cyphering to Wu-Tang instrumentals & yeah...messy.

Wednesday Tyna & I did a freestyle set up at Rain...

...but the club manager didnt want rapping so we abandoned the decks & mic & just had fun instead. We ended up taking everyone back to Espionage's place for a cypher, even though we were all smashed.

Thursday we went to a house party & town, which was mostly uneventful apart from some good calls & Tyna melting panties on Cuba St with the guitar i stole off a busker.

Friday I had to call a timeout cos my body was falling apart & instead of going out & being funny I started a trending topic in twitter which I've carried on doing almost daily since & we (@Tyna04 & @USOuljah) smash them out.

Okay. Saturday was possibly the most eventful night of the trip...Tyna & I headed into town & met The Prez on Cuba St at his friends house for some drinks - they were all pretty smashed by the time we got there - & we proceded to get on it. Tyna left to attend to music video related stuff (the shoot was the following day) so me & The Prez...

...proceded to be our usual charming selves & entertaining the people in the house. There was tequila shots, different kinds of alcohol, rapping, hilarity & then it all went umm....naked....kind of...

I'm not going to say anymore about that night because, well, I just shouldnt haha.

The next morning i't took me soooooo long to wake The Prez up & we ended up arriving for the video late (luckily the video was running late also) & extremely hungover. The video took from 9am to 4am to shoot, so it was a really long day, especially when hungover & we kind of just struggled through our cameo''s until the booze turned up & then we were all over it again. There are soooo many funny highlights from the video & I wish I could go into detail, but the rest of the day would be spent if I did so here's some pics I took...

The video is going to look really good, I thought everyone did a mean job & we all had a good time, except maybe Tyna who had the longest day out of everyone. Cant wait to see the finished product & see what scenes of my clowning made it in haha.

So I havent done a show with Tourettes for a bit as I've been back in Wellington & he's been doing shows in Melbourne, but we're back at it with this...

Day Dreams Start Fires, the successful collaboration between poet and artist is returning to The Basement from November 24.

Mastermind Dominic Hoey a.k.a Tourettes is once again fusing his words with ten local New Zealand artists, including internationally renowned Misery, graffiti world champion Askew, plus Otis Frizzell, Cut Collective, Gasp, and many more. This November The Basement is set to bring you the second installment of this unique art experience. If you missed last year’s show or are yet to be enlightened, Day Dreams Start Fires can be described as a fusion of two creative spheres – art and poetry.

Tourettes infuses the indecency of hip hop with the emotional intensity of poetry. His rawness, sincerity and candidness often leave you feeling simultaneously elated and melancholic, but none the less enlightened. He released his second album this year, with his single reaching number one on the NZ independent charts.

“The idea for the show came to me after one of my poems was made into an A2 poster for Morph magazine”. Shortly after, Tourettes began seeing the posters everywhere; people’s living rooms, cafes, even a couple on Facebook pages. He quickly realized that there was real interest in poetry presented as art. Dom approached some of his favourite artists with the idea of an exhibition and a fistful of poems for them to choose from. Most did not require much persuasion; they knew this was an incredible opportunity to do something truly unique and creative. Artists include:

Creating awareness for this type of urban art is fundamental to the creation of this exhibition. So I turned up to the Friday gig @ Cassette a bit too wet off the booze me & the cuzzy Bryan got into before hand. Not a good gig, at least on my part. I had gear issues & we hadnt rehearsed, but I thought Tourettes, Caomie & Kylie still were awesome. I just should have eased up on the piss & turned up to line check. Lesson learnt.

Anyway after that we hit the ARC @ Khuja where I was asked to play & of course still being drunk, couldnt improve my game & got kicked off the decks. Then a friend of mine decided it was a good night for a fight & when I went to break it up, I caught a stray punch. In the eye. By my mate. Fun as night though.

Legends - Dj Sirvere

This is the first in my legends series I'm gonna be writing about. I'm gonna be approaching it on the way we met & my experiences with them. I thought I'd start with this guy.

I first met Sirvere when i was 16 in Porirua. I was Dj'ing @ Hound Dog in North City Plaza on a Saturday (which was one of my part time jobs back then) with my man Phil Taase (dance Dj Uncle Phil), when we saw a TV crew turn up across the mall to film @ new music store "Urban Soundz". It turned out to be Sirvere & DLT filming for the legendary "Wreckognize" show. Phil T took me over & introduced me to them & it was a pleasant albeit brief meeting.

Fast forward to 2001 & I had entered the southern regional ITF's in Christchurch, I didnt know anyone at all. I turned up to soundcheck & stood alone waiting for things to kick off. Scribe was actually the first person to approach me & say hi, followed by Shan. Anyway, that was the next time I'd met Sirvere & being a new face on the battle scene & not really making a splash yet, I dont think i was paid much mind. All good, moving on.

The next year I was living back in Wellington & entered the Welli ITF's , which went very well for me & I qualified for the NZ final. At this point I kinda need to back track a little bit & say that Sirvere was the guy responsible for the ITFs - organising, bringing out the internationals, etc. Oh you didnt know? By qualifying for the NZ final I had booked myself a ticket to the summit (another piece of NZ hiphop history he is responsible for, along with Ali) where the final was being held (I would have gone anyway, as Dj for Hamofide) & so Sirvere had to fly me up to Auckland.

We flew as a crew to Auckland & you think theres a shuttle waiting for us? Nah, Sirvere picks us up in his car, himself! At this stage I'm still in the "fuck that's Dj Sirvere" stage, so him driving us to the hotel was a bit of a buzz. That whole weekend was just fucking heaven anyway, i got to hang out with all the important people in the scene, make some contacts (& friends), battle in the NZ ITF final in front of 4000 people & destroy a stage with Hamofide. It was a landmark moment in time for me. From that point I felt i was paid a lot more attention for my Djing, beats & just in general.

I'd been following Sirveres Major Flavours series & volume 3 was the next one in the making. He had recruited my boys USOuljah & OvaDosage from Hamofide to drop freestyles on it & so whenever he came through Welli to tour, they performed with him & we were hooked up on the door & looked after. Around this time I had been tutoring audio engineering @ a polytech & I reached out to Sirvere to come & talk to my students @ Marmalade studio, since he was touring MF3 in Wellington. Not only did he oblige, being real busy with the tour, but he brought along with him, Ali, Shan & Savage. They answered questions, took photo's & chatted with the students & I became the coolest tutor around for being able to hook that up.

Not long after that I received a phone call from Sirvere inviting me to do a scratch break for Major Flavours 4 & i was completely floored. To me, having a scratch break or freestyle on a Major Flavours CD was the hiphop equivalent of making the All Blacks - the list of Dj's that went before me is fucking crazy - check it out for yourself, there's a lot of history in those mixtapes. He told me I'd be scratching on Eminems "Business" & said he'd send me the CD with the timing in the next couple of days. I'd never heard the track, so I left work straight away & brought the CD single (remember those?) of it cos it had the instrumental & took it back to the studio to have a jam on it. A couple of days later I got the CD in the mail & I took it straight to the studio & recorded my break in an hour, never mind that I was supposed to be teaching a lesson. I put it on a CD, along with 2 recently recorded Hamofide tracks - for feedback/advice - & sent it back to him that very afternoon. A day or 2 later I got a call from him saying that he liked the break & asked would i like to put the 2 Hamofide tracks on the bonus disc? "Fuckin' aye" or something to that effect was my response. Anyway Major Flavours 4 came out & ended up being the biggest selling volume. And because of that, it paid for me to make my pilgrimage to mecca - New York City. As well as that, it kicked things off for us as a crew & people started knowing our songs around NZ. It was high times for a halfcaste kid from Cannons Creek who was barely able to afford turntables, let me tell you.

Anyways, there were many more interractions, summits, gigs, etc but the end point, is that the dude became a good friend that I have alot of admiration & respect for. It has always amazed me that he doesnt really get the recognition for what he has done for hiphop in this country. Without him there is no ITFs, Major Flavours, Wreckognize & Summit's in a long ass list of shit he is responsible for that holds our culture up. Know your history.

So, Truce & I did Khuja on Thursday & the less said about that one, the better. Complete waste of time, shit line up & no crowd. Catch that up. We will make up for that with a show soon - details to come.

Saturday I did Kings Arms with Tourettes, which was actually my first time playing there & I enjoyed the shit out of it. Once again we had no crowd & money was not forthcoming but I felt like we once again did a real good job of holding it down, with myself on my usual turntable duties as well as backing vox & Kylie on screams. It's the first show I've done with Tourettes where we havent had Jay Roacher & Caomhe on the mic's as well so I thought we did a mean show - even going back to back with Vietnam War. One of the more unusual gigs I've played but heaps of fun. I think Tourettes & I are becoming quite settled in his/our show & there's plenty more coming.

Next weekend - September 11-12 I'm away playing support with Pieter T, Dei Hamo & others I cant remember (I still havent been given the full details) in Kaikohe & Kerikeri, which I'm looking forward to, considering I've never been any further than Kaiwaka (yeah yeah I'd never been to Auckland until I was 20 either motherfuckers).

Other music/gig related news is unofficial at this stage so I wont say too much, but Truce & I have something cooking which will ruffle a few feathers & also, there is a certain American hiphop artist that I will be traveling abroad to support in the coming months, but I dont think I'm supposed to say too much about that, so more on that later.

In other news, The Overcast has been busy on all our own personal projects & shit is sounding meeeeean. I heard Te Ra's demo tracks for his EP & there are some certain dudes that will regret brushing my cousin off. He has improved & done it all him self from the beats, rhymes & mix. I will post up some of his stuff real soon if he's cool with that. Wox has his mixtape (which I have a few beats on) near completion & I'm just waiting for the call to mix it together on scratch live. He is going to make waves when rap dudes hear this shit, dude is one of the dopest MC's I've ever worked with & a straight up good cunt to boot. Gigs to follow in aid of these projects too.

Okay, so some may have noticed theres been a lack of updates on here over the last little while. The main catalyst for this, was my place of employment blocking any website that wasnt work related. Tough crowd. I dont have the net @ home (yet) so I've not been so active on the various e-life websites that have made my days far more entertaining & less productive in days past.

Anyways, I'm chilling back in the capital city for my old man's 50th, a holiday, catch ups & a hunting trip. Jade & I drove down on Friday after a big night out in Auckland (thanks to all you good cunts that hooked us up, chilled with us & went out of your way to make my bro's trip to Auck's fun). Yesterday we had a dinner for Dad's 50th & then I went & watched that gut wrenching Warriors game @ Christian Cullens sports bar (that place is meeeean!) before going to the MC battle @ Vintage. Good as to see a lot of old & familiar faces - top dogs. Shot to the cuzzy Tyna for grabbing me & to Low Key (runner up to Tu One in the battle) for the killer hospitality last night - I owe you a cask g! hahaha.

Lots more catching up to do during the week & then it's off to the Wairarapa with the Rarere men to shoot defenseless animals for sport. Shot.

Ima get my bite on with this blog entry, cos I've just seen the MTC fulla's list their top albums over on their blog (check the blog roll to the right to link over) & it made me think about my favourites this year (in no special order)...

Nicolay & Kay: Timeless This is the album that made me stop making mine this year (I am gonna finish it, but that's another post). I heard this & was so buzzed out on how it runs seamless from the first to last track. It's got variety too, from hiphop to R&B to reggaeton. My favourite drop for 2008.
Raphael Saadiq: The Way I see It This is a recent addition to my music collection, but it's had a decent thrashing in my headphones. Soul is my favourite genre of music & Saadiq has managed to go back in time & make a Motown-esque long player. Love it all the way through. The collabo's are mean too.
Ethical: Ages Turn That's my dude. The album is slick from the rhymes to the beats & the mixdown. It came with the free "Coming Of Age" EP as well, which has a couple of my favourite Eth tracks. Proud of the cuzzy for getting it done & acheiving what so many of his peers havent yet, make & release a full length album. Highlight for me is "Head On My Shoulder", put that on & remember the important people in your life.
Estelle: Shine Cool beats, reminds me a little bit of "The Miseducation Of Lauren Hill", love the accent & she's hot.
88 Keys: Death Of Adam This is another new addition to my collection & even though I'm listing it here, I still havent given it the full attention it really does deserve (I think I may have been subconsciously saving this for my summer road trip...). The album tells a story about sex & the soul samples are mean. What more can you want aye? Cool raps too.
AC/DC: Black Ice They sound the same now, as they did in the late 80's when i was introduced to them. Still mean.
Homebrew: Last Week These guy's were the find of '08 for me. The dude Haz gave me a demo CD one night & I was feeling it all the way through. This one isnt an album, as such, but the concept was mean (one track a day, everyday for a week) & they pulled it off really well. I'm watching out for these fulla's.
Young Sid: The Truth I think Sid's album may have been released last year, but I only got it this year so I'm including it here. Just a dope collection of south side stories from a young man who's seen a lot of shit most of us only read about in the paper. Dope beats & a cool swagger.

SPORT 2008

Im a bit bored this morning & since I've been reflecting on the year the last week or so I thought I'd break it down on here. Today I break down my sports highlights for '08.

SPORT
* It doesnt get any better than the Kiwi's winning the World Cup. Nuff said.

* The Warriors had a miracle win over the Storm from 8th seed to go just 80 minutes from the grand final.

* The Cuzzy Arana Taumata made his NRL debut for the bulldog's & was playing really well untill getting the sack. He's off to the Storm for '09 & I'm predicting big things for him in the next couple of season, even a Kiwi jersey...

* The Celtic's took Kobe & the Fakers in 6 for the NBA championship

* Shane 'Mountain Warrior' Cameron had a good year in the ring & it looks like '09 will be even better for him (he's my cuzzy too :P)

* My Saints dominated the NBL this year but failed against Waikato in the finals

* Rugby Union got even more boring this year, if that was even possible, but my hometown Wellington Lions won the Ranfuley Shield from Auckland, but stumbled in the Air NZ Cup final against Canterbury.

All in all, this has been the best year of my life, as a sports fan. The Kiwi's have been my favourite all time sports team since I can remember & I'm always stoked when they beat the Kangaroo's, but to win a world cup as a bonus. Unfuckwithable. The Warriors started out slow & early on it looked like it was gonna be one of those horror seasons that they have been known to have, but the boys got stronger & stronger as the season rolled along. I also became mates with a couple of the boys in the team & the benefits of that were what league fans dream of.

In Basketball, the Celtics did the business & I enjoyed that finals series more than any in recent memory. I'm overjoyed to see Kevin Garnett finally get that ring. Paul Pierce reaffirmed himself as one of my favourite players & how was his performance in the finals??? That moment when he limped back out on to the court to inspire Boston to a win was one of those hair raisng sports moments that they make movies of.

Wellington wise, the Saints & Lions dominated their respective regular season's only to fall over @ the finish line. Eaht.

Im so, so happy that the Kiwi's won the world cup. This eclipse's the tri-nations win in 2005 & even that magical win by the Warriors against the Storm earlier this year in the NRL playoff's. It's been the best year of Kiwi league of my lifetime & I couldnt be happier, I'm actually still in disbelief. Fuck yo couch Aussie.

Im back on the music making buzz again. Ash came through the studio last night & got me motivated again. I havent really done a lot recently apart from a few beats here & there, plus my usual co-conspiritors have been slack on the communication tip, so last night was good for remembering that I do this shit for real. We recorded some guide vocals for an album track & recorded another one from scratch, from the kick drums to the vocals. I hadnt done that in quite some time & it gave me some confidence back. The album is gonna end up sounding a lot different from what I originally had in mind, but with Ash's help I think we can do something pretty cool. I'm lucky to have his help & guidance. Dude makes a good producer.

There hasnt been a great deal else happening lately, a few parties, a lot of mahi & spending a fair amount of time with the boys. I've been spending a lot of thought energy on looking forward to the summer break in Welli & Mahia, due to the fact I'm a bit homesick & totally over Auckland. Big plans are in the works to bounce from Aucks, but I'll talk about that a bit more when things are confirmed. I've been in Aucks for 5 years now & it's the longest I've spent in anyone place in my adult life. It's time to move on, plus I've got the international travel bug again. Cool thing is I record wherever I'm at due to the lappy & M-Box.

Now don’t get me wrong, there ain’t nothing like a good old fashioned fatal
stabbing or gruesome murder to help distract from the monotonous thrill lacking
lump of shit that is life. And we all need a healthy helping of Home and
Away once in a while when the only thing we have to look forward to is an
afternoon shit. But who said music had be an episode of Law and Order or a
Friday night out with Millie Holmes? Sure, I love a bit of Slick Rick as much as
the next guy in an eye patch and I could listen to Nas talk about Queen’s Bridge
till I gotta bite my ipod to get the battery working, but sometimes, just
sometimes, when I’ve played Labcabincalifornia 3 times over on repeat and I’ve
heard Necro rhyme crack pipe 17 different ways, all I wana do is chill out and
listen to Q-Tip tell me bout the day he lost his wallet. Cause I can relate to
that. I ain’t ever been to El Segundo, but I’ve filled out an application for a
new eftpos card and that shit is frustrating.

Anyway, what I’m
trying to say is. Sometimes life is boring. It just is. So when you’re listening
to the new E.P from Home Brew, produced by Goonie Hodges and DJ Truent, (who
both have never sold crack cocaine or served time in San Quentin for crimes
against humanity, although Haz did get arrested that one time for pissing in
public, but he pled diversion in the end and only got community service) don’t
be mad if the beats don’t sound like your favourite wrestlers intro music or
make you want to head but a bouncer. And don’t be pissed because the lyrics on
the EP aren’t as exciting as the Legend of Zelda or the near death experience
you had that time on your old best mates bmx. Just turn it up, grab a beer or a
wine or whatever the fuck it is you prefer to drink, smoke, snort or shelve to
take away from the normal boring reality that is your life and relax.

‘Last Week’ won’t give you the same adrenalin rush shop lifting
will and it isn’t as exciting as that dude you know who named all his kids after
xmen characters. It’s just a normal 7 track EP about the normal boring reality
that is our life. 7 tracks we wrote last week about.. well.. last week. And
really bro. That’s it.

So, the Warriors lost, but thats all good, they did a lot better than most people expected & toppled the Storm on the way to the preliminary final. Im proud as of the boys, especially considering only a couple of months ago it looked like they would miss out on the top 8. Too much. From what im told, the mad monday session was pretty mean & they had a good time. Well deserved.

The cuzzy Shane Cameron won on Saturday night too, almost knocking out the "trouble maker" in 12. It was a shame he didnt become the first fighter to knock him out, but at least he won unanimously. Too much cuz.

Lost another game last night :( I played well enough, scoring in double figures (20ish?)as well as getting a shit load of rebounds, a couple of blocks & a few steals. It was another scrappy game with heaps of uncalled fouls & trash talking galore. Im sore as hell all over my body, from playing forward on defense & point guard on offense (plus all the fouls). The season looks like it's pretty much fucked now, so im just gonna try & enjoy the rest of it.

We got thrashed last night so badly I didnt even check the score before I left. It was embarrassing to get hammered like that, & I played really shit too. I didnt control the ball very well, couldnt find the basket & had little or no options or help from my team mates. We probably had given up by half time & it got worse. We had only one bench player & some of our better players were missing. Our record this season is now 2-2. Ratshit.

Had another really good weekend, catching up with the good people in my circumference as well as hanging with a couple of new ones :D. KSK was on again & was the most fun I've had in ages (& I have a lot of that :P). Got on the music tip with Te Ra before the KS Kids turned up prior to the EOW MC battle (which we never made it to haha, congrats to Saia for winning & the cuzzy Pakkz for making the top 4). Got a lot of music work done anyhow & I'm feeling pretty optimistic about what we've been doing. I think people are really gonna like it when it's been tightened up.

Yesterday I was woken up by Kaya & we hung out for most the day before the Panther & Uncle Bad Touch came scooped me up for the Warriors game, where we were again invited to enjoy the little generals hospitality in the Stacey Jones lounge. Third game of the basketball season last night & we lost by 6. Our record is now 2-1. I feel responsible for the loss, considering I didnt score as many points as usual, but I played hard (grazed anatomy hard), hit the boards hardout & did my best to guide the team, but it just wasnt meant to be. I pulled off one of the meanest moves of my life in the last minute though, a cross over, spin to the fade-away hook shot haha. I'll take the positive from that.

So I was in the warehouse the other day looking for a DVD & this middle aged trophy wife looking sheila comes up to me & goes "where is (i forget what she asked for..)?". I said "how the fuck would I know?" & she goes "oh, dont you work here?". I was like "nah aye, what makes you think that?", she reckons "oh you just look like you might work here". I said "just cos i got paru clothes on & look like I need a bath doesnt mean I'm down with the warehouse, I'm quite hungover & I'm shopping for some entertainment because I cant be fucked doing any work, actually, maybe I should get a job here, looks easy as.....anyway, what do you do besides root your husband & spend his money?". She walked away.

Basketball Game 2

Another win. Although, only just this time. I was the only guard last night & practically played the whole game because of that. Struggled my way through with the flu, could hardly breathe & coughed my arse off. We were pretty lucky to win, as the main dude of the opposing team got hit with a technical with 30 seconds left & I went to the line to seal the win, hitting 1 from 2. I was again pretty happy with my game, scoring in double figures again & setting up Ethan for a few baskets. My 3 point shooting was shit though, I was managing to get them in the right spot, but they just wouldnt fall. Good fun, just hate when I become a target for the opposite team.

Ive been defeated by the flu since Friday & it's my first day back at work today. I've spent the best part of the past 3 days in bed coughing my lungs out, sweating, writing for the album & watching mafia movies. And I've got no voice. It's real nice to be out of the house today even if im still not 100%. Even if I've been locked down with the sickness, the phone wont stop ringing, so if you're one of those people who got ignored lately, it's not cos I dont like you (even if I dont :P), it's because my phones have been sitting on thier chargers. Dont take it personally.

Good to see Bryan & Wox for the first time in ages lately, cant wait for this weeks recording session.

Basketball Season Again

We had our first game of the season last night & won by 20 something points. I was pretty happy with my game considering what I've put my body through lately. I scored in double figures & hit the boards well. Highlight of the game for me personally was an alley-oop that I through up & our centre Ethan caught & finished it off nicely. We even pulled off another one late in the game, except that time he threw it up for me. Good fun, but I am so VERY sore today.

Battles, Warriors & The Alcohol That Goes With It All

Yet, another HUGE weekend. Caught up with a few of the boys on Thursday to check a new spot in the neighbourhood, that, as should have been predicted, got out of hand quite quickly. Thats all I'll say about that one. Keep it local.

Friday was the NZ DMC final, which the bro Impact won, much deservedly. Had a wicked time & got handsome with a lot of people I hadnt seen in quite some time, plus a few new faces. Apparently I've got soft hands...aye?
The Darknesses came over to the chambers for a pre match which was so much fun I wasnt even that keen to go to DMC's haha

Saturday, we went to the Stacey Jones lounge to watch the Warriors play the Broncos' which was mean as, but as the third day on the trot, is quite an effort. The Warriors won & we all had a choice time, but I probably should have gone home after that, every where we went after that is quite blurry. Well, when you start giving Nathan Fien kicking advice & telling other players what they're doing wrong, it's probably time to go home hahaha.

Sunday I just kicked back with Kaya talked about school & just enjoyed each others company. She's doing real well.

I'll sort out more photo's when I get a chance, these are all off my camera which I didnt take to anything cos there was always someone else taking one.

I cant believe it's the start of another week already. They seem to just fly by faster than usual lately, & maybe that's a sign of how busy things have been. This week is as busy as they get for me - we're tieing up the whole Jim Beam thing tonight, signing contracts etc, plus Bus' radio show, tomorrow is university, Wednesday is basketball, Thursday is a dedicated writing night & then before I know it, it'll be Friday again & another hardout weekend. DMC's are on that night & that's something I cant miss. I'm really keen to see what the level is these day's (I'm quite far removed from the whole scene). I'm now pretty sure that my arm is'nt broken but damn it's sore, lucky im not competing anymore, I'd have had to pull out this week haha. On Saturday the man himself has invited a few of us to watch Warriors V Bronco's from the Stacey Jones lounge & I'm quite looking forward to that. Being the scrub I am, I've only ever watched the Warriors from the hood seats. On top of all that, there's the full time mahi. And there's lot's of that.

It was a big one, started off @ DP's whare on Friday before taking it back to 36 for a proper throw down. Somehow we ended up @ Ponsonby Social Club, not a fan. That place is out of it.

Last night we went to the All Blacks test @ Eden Park (shot Barnesy for the tickets!), I got kicked out & I think I broke my arm. Choice.

Finally got myself a copy of this today. So, yeah, I've been geeking out on it all day. I'm not really a hardout gamer, but I geek out on sports games (well sports in general, but if you read this on the regular, you already know that aye). Ive been buying & playing NBA live since the first one in 95. Thats 13 years of geekdom right there & like $1300 worth of the same game, just modified every year. Gotta love the NBA to be down like that.

Anyways, it's almost 6 & the weekends here so im off to down some beers, talk shit, make fun of people & watch sport. Wellington play Hawkes Bay tonight & I'm at the All Black V Australia test tomorrow night (fuck off bad weather) so it's a bit of rugby, plus theres the Warriors playing my other favourite NRL team, the Rabbitohs. Mean.

I know im really late to the party but, I just finished watching the first season of this & I gotta say I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. The plot revolves around Dexter, who is a blood splatter analyst for the Miami metro police department. He is also a serial killer on the side. As a child he was found at a murder scene by homocide investigator Harry Morgan, who takes Dexter in as his step son. Harry discovers that Dexter has murderistic tendencies & so teaches him how to get away with murder, but also instills a strict moral code that he only kill those who deserve to die, ie. serial killers. I've read some on-line theories about how Dexter represents America & Harry represents Britain but whatever, I reckon it was written in a way to provoke the viewer into asking them selves "would I let this happen?"/

Anyways, shit is good & Sky 1 or Box, whatever they call it now, is playing the second series in August. Im there.
